WHY ECOMAT?
WHY IS MATTRESS DISPOSAL SUCH A PROBLEM?
Over 30 million mattresses are disposed of in landfills or incinerated every year in Europe. Both practices are extremely detrimental to the environment. When buried, a mattress is subjected to very slow degradation. Its components find their way into groundwater systems and soil, and produce greenhouse gas. On the other hand, incineration is responsible for the emission of greenhouse gas emissions (CO2). This means that currently, a mattress’ end-of-life is synonymous with the contamination of our water, air and soil resources and heavily contributes to global warming.

HOW IS ECOMAT PART OF THE SOLUTION?
EcoMat collects mattresses from landfills and partners, both private and municipal. Commercial partners mainly reference mattress companies that collect old mattresses when delivering new ones. The collection of mattresses by waste disposal centers must take place in a closed container, so mattresses remain dry. Landfills can use their own containers or containers provided by EcoMat for this purpose specifically, which we deliver to your landfill location. When containers are full, EcoMat will pick up these containers. For commercial partners, we pick-up at your location once 15 mattresses have been collected at least. We do not offer private household mattress collections.

WHAT IS ECOMAT'S ADDED VALUE?

Once mattresses have been collected, they are brought to our warehouse, where they are unloaded from trucks and emptied from containers. First, they are put through a sanitization process where extreme thermal heat is applied over and under the mattress which is simultaneously squeezed. Then, mattresses go through a metal detector. According to the nature of the mattress, they are put on separate dismantling lines. Our facility has two main dismantling lines developed by our R&D department. A first line is dedicated to the dismantling of spring mattresses using a peeling roller which removes the textile from the mattress. A second line is dedicated to the dismantling of foam and latex mattresses. All of the textiles extracted through this process are carefully sorted according to their nature, in order to guarantee our customers high purity levels and total conformity with their specifications and standards.
We then pack the products differently according to their nature and in order to optimize their shipment. Textile and cellular materials are compacted in the form of bales (foam is pressed into bales of around 300kg). Metal and wood are respectively melted and crushed. The materials are then shipped and processed exclusively within Europe to be re-used in relevant industries.

Re-valorization industries
We are committed to finding a market for every material that comes out of a mattress.
ECOMAT FOR YOUR COMPANY?
Consumers are becoming increasingly environmentally and socially conscious. They are demanding more and expecting companies to provide solutions both for the way their products are produced but also in the way their products' end-of-life is catered to. Tell your consumers you are partnering with us; this will certify that you are contributing to the global crisis in your own way.
OUR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Every mattress we collect allows us to save 20 kg of CO2 emission.

92% of the mattress we collect are re-valorized into new, re-usable materials.
OUR SOCIAL IMPACT
We are committed to fighting social exclusion through the implementation of a sustainable job program. We seek to re-integrate people fighting addiction and poverty into society by offering them a full-time employment. In our first recycling plant, we aim to employe 8 employees to begin with.
